Dear Friends,
It's been an honor to serve the citizens and families of the 36th District for the past eight years.  As a member of the new majority in the General Assembly, I am proud to be part of the leadership team that successfully passed jobs legislation, education reform and balanced State Budgets which reduced our tax burden by over $1.5 billion.  In a fifth term I will continue to focus on improving our education system to compete in the global economy; enhancing North Carolina's quality of life for all our citizens and families; and insure we are creating more jobs by being the most business friendly state in America.

Over the past two years I have worked hard to keep my promises to the people of our District by passing landmark legislation including Annexation Reform, Workers Compensation Reform, and a restructuring of our State's Mental Health System.  

Based on my work this past Session, I was ranked in the Top Ten Most Effective Legislators by the nonpartisan NC Center for Public Policy Research and a Top Ten Business Ranking from NC Free Enterprise Foundation.   As a senior member in the House, I serve in several leadership roles which include Chair of the Appropriations Committee, Chair of Health and Human Services and as a Chair of the Joint Legislative Oversight Committee for Health and Human Services.     

We have made great progress meeting the difficult challenges of the past two years.  We have more work to do.  Please know I will continue to seek solutions that bring people together and move North Carolina ahead.
